Welcome! We look forward to working with you and appreciate your interest. Our goal is to create a memorable cake for your event that highlights quality ingredients and flavors, paired with modern design. The information below applies to events and celebrations of all kinds (weddings, birthdays, Showers, etc) - pricing is quoted based on the scope of the project and does not differ based on the type of event you are celebrating.

Feel free to reach us by email with any questions that you’d like to further discuss. (Owner, Meg, is currently on maternity leave and will return to scheduled phone appointments in late Spring / early Summer)

cake size

Serving quantity is approximate and is based on our cutting guide (which can be provided) of typical wedding sized slices. The amount of servings that each cake provides is ultimately determined by how you or your caterer cuts the cake. Picking your cake size first helps us determine what type of design composition would fit best, how many flavors you can include in your cake + give us a reasonable idea of the budget you should be planning for. Below is just a sampling of common sizes and tier combinations.

Wedding cakes are generally priced between $11-$13/serving for buttercream styles; $13-$18/serving for fondant styles. Pricing varies greatly based on the chosen design and techniques utilized. Once we have a better understanding of what styles you're attracted to, we can provide a more accurate quote.

Backstage Servings: (often referred to as “sheet” or “slab” cake)

If your event requires more than 130 servings or you simply prefer the look of a more petite cake on display, we offer the option of backstage servings. These are undecorated, square layer cakes that are stored with catering and used to supplement the slices of the tiered, display cake. Since these cakes are have no decor, they are priced less at $8/serving. We can provide guidance on what combination and quantity of display cake + backstage cake would be needed to equal the total amount of servings needed. Please keep in mind that we require a minimum investment of a 6”/8”/10” display cake size to qualify for the addition of backstage cakes.

Since our small team is only able to service a few delivery locations per date, we have implemented a minimum requirement to qualify for delivery:

Minimum purchase of $500.00 baked product needed to qualify for delivery (plus $200+ delivery fee) = $700.00 minimum investment for full service, event day delivery

If your requested order does not meet this minimum, pick up will need to be arranged at our Manayunk facility. Transportation and storage tips will be provided.

Opting for professional delivery ensures that your cake arrives at your venue on-time and in perfect condition. Our team has serviced the wedding industry for ten years and understands the delicate nature of transporting cakes. We utilize our van, filled with proper coolers, to make sure the hot weather does not impact your cake. We coordinate with your planner, florists etc to allow for a seamless timeline and provide proper insurance certification to your venue. For wedding days, we truly recommend this service to avoid any issues or stress.

FLAVOR

When considering your flavors, there are three elements to familiarize yourself with: your cake flavor, your filling flavor and your exterior buttercream flavors.

FILLING: Your cake can be filled with Swiss meringue buttercream and/or chocolate ganache + the addition of fruit jams, lemon curd, caramel, butterscotch or candied nuts.

EXTERIOR BUTTERCREAM: Your exterior buttercream flavor may or may not differ from your filling flavor. For example, if you love the look of a white cake but want a chocolate filling. In this case, we’d use white vanilla on the exterior and chocolate buttercream or ganache for the filling. Your design choice may also require the use of vanilla on the exterior if we plan on adding any tinted coloring.

FONDANT: Fondant is a sugarpaste that is rolled thin and draped over the exterior buttercream. It tastes sweet, similar to marshmallow. Fondant is not chosen instead of buttercream, it is added in addition to the buttercream. This is only needed if your design requires the use of it.

You may opt to choose one flavor combination for your entire cake or choose a different flavor for each tier. To determine which route is more appropriate for your event, it’s helpful to know how the cake will be served. Offering multiple flavors usually works best if the cake slices will all be displayed or butlered and guests can help themselves and choose which flavor they’d enjoy (as opposed to slices being served to each place setting). Since it takes us several additional hours to bake and prepare for a cake with multiple combinations, there will be a $40 fee added to your quote for each additional flavor combination.

DESIGN

Your design will be the element that most determines the final pricing for your cake. Options range from our sheer, minimal styles to ornate fondant creations. It’s helpful to do some research on how styles differ and which you most prefer. We’re more than happy to guide you in the right direction once you provide us with some inspiration. Keep in mind that each cake artist excels in certain styles. When shopping for your wedding cake vendor, it’s important to find an artist that already works in the style that you’re seeking. As artists, we thrive on producing original work and will not replicate the designs of other hard working artists in our field.

If you’re interested in adding a floral element to your cake, you have a few different options. Most commonly, clients opt to add fresh flowers to accent their cake. In this case, your florist will provide these flowers and will need to be made aware, in advance, to be sure they are ordering the correct amount of stems and charging you appropriately. We’ll coordinate with your florist regarding our delivery time and will collect the blooms upon our arrival to the venue. We’ll take care of properly wrapping the stems and arranging them onto the cake. It’s important that the stems are fully and hygienically wrapped prior to insertion to prevent contamination of your cake - which is why we prefer to handle this portion of the decor.

Alternately, we can provide the service of creating a custom arrangement of hand crafted sugar flowers to add to your cake. This is great option if you’re hoping for a type or color of flower that does not occur in nature or cannot be sourced for your wedding day. It’s also a more food-safe option as these are created in our kitchen from edible materials. However, please be aware that sugar flowers are not meant for consumption due to the fact that they are supported by wires and toothpicks for stability and often dusted with very saturated color powders. Since they are dried hard and not flavored, they also would not be a very tasty bite! Creating sugar flowers is an extremely arduous and time consuming process that takes a great bit of skill, patience and many professional tools. Adding sugar flowers to your cake is an investment in the design and will increase your quote significantly. However, if the flowers are carefully removed from your cake, they can be saved and displayed for years to come!

DISPLAY, DELIVERY & SET-UP

We offer an array of cake stand and tower options available for rental. These pieces are optional - but much like any accessory, they truly help make your desserts shine. Cake stands can add extra height to a small cake and allow for additional room below to weave candles, fabrics or florals around the base of your cake, creating a stunning centerpiece. Acrylic towers can be provided to display cupcakes and macarons. Towers can be assembled in a variety of sizes and heights.

Rental fees start at $30.00. All rental items need to be returned to Nutmeg the following week, post-event.

Once we understand the scope of your order and know the location of your venue, we will propose a delivery and set-up fee - starting at $200.00. (We generally aim to stay within an hour’s drive of Philadelphia.) This fee covers our travel to your venue, including gas, mileage and tolls, safe, timely and secure transportation of your cake, along with any necessary onsite set-up and floral styling. During the week of your wedding, we’ll coordinate our delivery details with your planner / coordinator, caterer and florist. We can provide your venue with our certificate of insurance, if requested. Tiered cakes require special care, skill, attention and equipment for a successful delivery. We require delivery for all 3-tier+ cakes. Cakes containing four or more tiers require two team members, which may increase your delivery fee.

Any single or 2-tier cakes cake be picked up by the client, if preferred.

We do not offer delivery on any orders totaling less than $700 during peak season; $500 during non-peak season.
